Just
(re)use, don't throw!
- A
million plastic bags are consumed every minute, and 1500 bottles
trashed every second! Curb disposables including paper
cups/tissues, plastic bags/bottles.
Value
water before the well is dry!
- A slow dripping tap can waste up to 30 liters of water a day! Fix
all leaking fixtures instantly.
- Each flush sends upto 16 liters of water down the drain. Get a low
(dual) flush toilet. Indian squat ones are very efficient.
- Why pour water when a wet cloth could do it? Clean vehicles, floor,
etc. water economically.
- Run the water tap with minimal force. Keep it off while applying
soap, rubbing the brush, shaving or scrubbing vessels.
- Choose a restrained bucket bath over an extravagant shower bath. The
shorter the better. Bath tubs are a great deal worse.
With great power,
comes great responsibility!
- A screen saver saves nothing! Turn off the monitor while
stepping out (for few minutes or more), and similarly CPU while away for
a little longer.
- Curtail the AC usage – in the home, car and office (At least, get
the temperature level increased by a couple of degrees).
Food
for thought!
- Curtail meat intake. Not only has
it an exceedingly high water footprint, it is also the single largest
climate change culprit (accounting for 51% of world-wide emissions).
Transport
without choking the city and its citizens!
- Switch to mass/non-motorized (e.g., bus/cycle) transport. It's beats
ill-health and congestion, too!
- Consider mileage/power consumption more than looks/comfort while
buying vehicles and appliances.
Be a miser
while using paper products!
- A 200-member company, with only 2 print-outs per person per day,
eats away 1 full tree in just ~20 days. Print only when needed; print
double sided.
