December 2004
Place: NOIDA, Exhibition Grounds, JNU

Winter Session of the parlaiment was scheduled to discuss and pass the Patent Act Amendment Bill. The amendment according to the bill envisaged accepting product patents and also patents for new dosages of old drugs. While accepting product patents is a necessary requirement for all signatories of TRIPS agreement, the latter part is not. This and many more changes envisaged by the amendment posed a serious threat to public health. AID Delhi along with other AID chapters and Lawyers Collective organized a petition signing campaign. Volunteers reached out to MPs to make them aware of the far-reaching effects of exceeding the minimum requirements of TRIPS agreement.
