TARA April 2008 PDF Print E-mail
  1. The month of April was not good for TARA because of our volunteer crunch.
  2. We have lost all volunteers due to the ongoing exams, so the classes have not been happening at the center.
  3. Admission of 4 children into the MCD School was the major achievement this April.

In the month of March, TARA not only celebrated Holi but also built a stage for its function and classes, reusing the broken bricks and wasted cement. It was a wonderful experience as the children and I built this stage all by ourselves, we made the cement masala for filling and handpicked the bricks. The stage took around five days to get completed and we worked our hearts on it. It was after the stage that I decided to have a theatre workshop for children during their summer break and after my final year exams.

TARA will have a workshop for 21 days in the month of June, in this period the children will get divided into groups and each group will be comprised of 5 children and two volunteers who will train the children into the art of acting and performing the art. Each group will be given one Panchatantra story and they will have to base their drama on it, improvisation will be allowed. That is the plan and we seek help from all Aid organisations who have done dramas and theatre with their children, as we at TARA are really not fully formed.

The day of Holi was crazy fun at the community. I ate almost at every house in the community and the gujiyas that the mothers made were amazing, giving me turmoil in the stomach later. We splashed colour at each other, clicked pictures and danced away to glory. It was amazing fun.

Alarming news:

TARA has lost all its volunteers and I’m left all by myself, I’m not complaining but it’s my final year and I might get admission in Jamia for my masters or I might not. And if I don’t get through any course in Jamia I’ll have to go out, which means TARA will crumple. I dread to even think about such a thing and thus I request AID- DELHI to recruit some of its volunteers to TARA.

This month Tara performed well. Children are going to school regularly.

We have arranged cycle rickshaw for all 15 children because children had started traveling in buses, which is not safe at all for these children.

Children who are not going to school are taught by Volunteers.

Classes are regularly going in the center and children are enjoying the games and study. We also arranged a polio van on Polio day. Polio van came to the community and polio drops were given to all children who were below 5 years. Now we are planning to admit some more children to nearby MCD School.

Tara Jan 2008 PDF Print E-mail

TARA in the month of january practiced rigorously for the annual event that took place on the 25th of january at the long forgotten Firing Range in Jamia. the children were divided into three groups, selected according to their age. the tiny tots who are below the age of 4 were made to practice two rhymes- Machli Jal Ki Rani and Chidiya Boli Kut Kut Kut.. they enacted these rhymes on the big day. Group 2 were below the age of 7 and they danced on the much liked A.R.Rehman no. Gurus Of Peace which was the last song sung by the maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. they were trained by Manvi and Zeeshan( volunteers). the last group comprised of the elder children, they recited a poem written by me. the fuction started at 3pm with Saba's speech who was the host and dost of the evening and came to an end with my annual speech on TARA and vote of thanks. after the show the children also had their first ever jam session where they danced with full masti with the volunteers on bollywood nos and we all danced like crazy on"billo rani" our favourite song. we also relished tea with samosas on that day.

A week before this show i realised that me and my volunteers didn't have any posts not that it was required but we gave ourselves posts for fun. we voted for each post and the results were something like this:

 Kulsum Rashid - President

Pavneet Kohli- Vice-president

Avneet Arora- General Secretary

Manvi Singh- Treasurer

Saba- co-Treasurer

Zeeshan- Health Facilitator

Gyan- star member

Pragati- star member

Rushanf-star member

Meenakshi- member

Anju-member

Dipti- baby sitter( hehe.. kidding.. she is good at it though) Member

Mehwish-member

and we also have new volunteers who still have to join us .Well the month of january was the most funfilled month for both the children and the volunteers as we saw for the first time our manageral ( is that a real word?) skills. the children loved every day of practice and they also helped in cleaning the deserted Firing Range along with us. The month was well spent and will be a memorable one for the lil TARA's.

TARA

Tara is also in serious trouble without a proper coordinator and lack in volunteers. Kulsum who started the project has got busy with too many things and not able to concentrate more at TARA. There are no AID Volunteers teaching the children as of now. Children are going to school regularly now but there is no class taking place. So TARA needs a coordinator as well as volunteers. People who are near by Jamia Milia can come forward to be a part of TARA.

Tara Nov 2007 PDF Print E-mail

The month of November started with a new experience for the children of TARA as they enthralled the audience of MTNL Health Mela on 3rd of November by a dance performance on A.R. Rehman’s song “ guru’s of peace”. The volunteers trained the children  for this big event trained the children

Then on the 14th of November TARA celebrated children’s day. The members organized a cricket match taking the idea from AID Delhi’s recent tournament. The game was played between the members and the children and the children won. On this occasion two of our very humble and excited guests Ravi and Roocheca did a little exercise for the children, they translated two English rhymes in Hindi and taught these to the children via singing and playing guitar.

A notable thing to be glad about was that two of Tara’s children Ramphal and Brijesh topped in their first semester in school and five of Tara’s children came first in a drawing competition organized in their school.

Things went smoothly in the month of November in TARA but unfortunately two of our members left and the search for new volunteers has begun. Planning for winters has started.
