While India continues to draw the attention of the world as the second most fastest growing economy of the world, the condition of the construction workers in Indiaremains pathetic. India has more than 3 million odd construction workers. These workers are one of the most vulnerable segments of the society. Their lives are characterized by temporary housing, lack of basic amenities and inadequate welfare facilities etc. More disheartening is the condition of their Children, who have no access to basic nutrition, healthcare and primary education facilities.
Dwarka (India), Asia’s largest sub-city has witnessed tremendous rise in infrastructure activities in the past few years. Consequently, there have been sprawling settlements of construction workers in the city. Hence, with intent to impart a productive direction to the lives of these people, PROJECT JAAGRITI was started in February 2009 with the following objectives:
Why the name Jaagriti? Project Jaagriti is not just about awakening the poor and making them grow into a successful citizen of this country. But it is also about awakening and making aware the privileged youth of the society about how a small step could make a meaningful and productive difference to the lives of the poor. Through this the project looks forward to motivating the youth, to rise and take every possible step for the benefit of the poor.
Around 30-35 Children including boys and girls, in age group of 5-14 years, are under the care of the project and are provided with regular education, nutrition and skill-based trainings. With just few months into the project, Project Jaagriti has made substantial progress which includes:
