Diwali or Deepawali, festival of lights, is celebrated with great joy during the first week of November during New moon day. The reason for celebrating is different in different places. Some celebrate because Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya from Lanka, some because Lordess Durga killed the evil and some because of Shri Krishna killed Narakaasura.
Whatever be the reason, it is celebrated in same way across the country. On this day diyas (similar to candles) will be light up in the houses and crackers will be burnt in the nights.

Might be thinking what that has to do with AID awarness campaign. Coming to that... As I said people burn crackers on this day. We are concerned about the pollution that is caused by these crackers. When population and pollution were less in good olden days, it didn't matter much. With increase of both in exponential rates, now it is high time to think again about this.

Please see the facts page to know more about these.
