What our Volunteers say PDF Print E-mail
Some words from our volunteers on how they felt on volunteering with AID Delhi. The small set of experiences shared on this site just give an idea of immense satisfaction that volunteering for the underpriviliged gives to all of us. Read on.

"Volunteering has made me more aware of myself and of the things that I can do. Everyone of us at some point in time feel for the poor communities or degraded environment. But we are not too sure if we can play a role in solving these seemingly complex problems. Ever since I started volunteering, it helped me clear many such myths. Now, I strongly believe that every person is unique and can accomplish a lot, just if (s)he makes a start and does things with passion. One doesn't have to be a Mother Teresa to be qualified as a dedicated volunteer or to make a difference in this world. Just reiterating on the philosophy of AID, every drop counts, so whatever little we can do, we should do to make this world a better place." --- Riputapan Singh

"Let me frame my reply as a simple QA format for more clarity and objectivity.
Q. "What does volunteering mean?
Volunteering to me is "Having the satisfaction that you did something useful at the end of the day". Be it as tiny as helping one to cross a road or a big as coordinating a project. A motivated person only can feel that satisfaction. It is not only for the poor, it can be for the welfare of nature, your neighbours, animals.
Q. "How has volunteering changed me?"
The first and important thing is it saved my 2 hours every week from being wasted. When I came to know about environment issues, I tried to put them into practise. Now many routines of daily life changed a bit towards nature care. Still there are lot of areas to develop.
One thing sure is I never felt unhappy because I had lots of freedom.
Q. "What motivates me to volunteer?"
The way I was bought up had a significant effect on me. When I see my parents actions, somewhere in my heart, some soft corner was developed for the poor. This combined with my interest in teaching pushed me to volunteer for teaching. Then to other things by seeing other dedicated volunteers. Hats off to them." --- Krishna Prasad

"To me, volunteering means, to do something that interests me and has a noble purpose. Volunteering with AID Delhi has helped me introspect and has made me more responsible towards the society. The happiness and wellbeing that our work spread, and also the feeling of having contributed something (other than taxes :) ) to the society, keeps me motivated to keep volunteering and making the difference." --- Bhuvan Gupta

"Volunteering with Association for India's Development (AID for short) has changed the way I look at things. As a child I was always intrigued by Gandhiji's talisman that is printed in every NCERT book. I never understood what it meant. Working with AID actually helped me realize Gandhiji's words. Interaction with AID volunteers around the world has helped me grow as a person. I know that if need be, I have a strong network of friends to look for help. AID has been a wonderful experience. I pray to God, that he sustains my ability to do something for the society, come whatever may. More than volunteering, AID is a way of living to me.
Also, AID is very different from other NGOs since it offers freedom of thought and expression to all volunteers. All are equal and everyone (or say it as every One counts :) " --- Anuj Grover.

"volunteering to me means freedom of expression..I can be everything which I cant be at my work place.. I can be the boss of my life and my actions dont need anybody else's consent..
volunteering has changed me in a lot of ways..at least it has made me realise that "one, is enough (to start making a difference)", just thiking that I alone cant change the world isnt the best idea.. I guess once we start alone, it doesnt take too long to gather the crowd.. big deal lies in taking an initiative.
the best part of AID is that there is no ONE BOSS around..everyones opinion counts and the best, prevails.
and needless to say the plight of the poor made me volunteer..." --- Dr. Gunjan Sharma

" Volunteering with AID has given me the opportunity to give back to the society which has given me so much. Let us give our best to restore the balance between rich and poor. Let us be alchemists who can change the lives of millions. Let the revolution begin"--- Anirban

"I am a very sentimental type of guy. i have deep feelings in side my heart which i never express (some times in need also).
The motivation for me came from my may be the environment as from my chilldhood i have seen child labour and rag pickers .On seeing them the first thing that striked me was "look the future of india is hungry . He has no clothes to wear" and thats why when I joined you I realised that really the future is not only hungry but it also need desperate time and knowledge and love from society apart from food. thats why now i have thought to me a positive change for the childrens as after all they are also HUMANS." --- Jatin Garg

"My exams having gotten over I was leading what I thought to be 'the good life',read.. lazing around , hanging out with friends and gorging! that was of course until I recieved a phone call one evening from my friend who had happened to volunteer for AID and had started working with them on one of their projects ... namely Faith Foundation (FF). having heard what a good time she had there, I decided to go check out faith foundation for myself . so the following saturday evening I found myself waiting in front of the barista at priya for things to start....the first day I found myself teaching maths( not exactly my favourite subject) to kadir( one of the many kids who comes there) and was somewhat surprised to find myself enjoying teaching them. we did a painting class with the kids the next day .... a clay modelling class the next and sometimes just worked on their abc's.... each time I would find myself working with different children, bonding with them... soon I found myself looking forward to the weekend .. becuase now weekends read FF for me, soon, I found 'myself' on the phone telling others what a great time I was having at FF....last weekend we helped the kids put up a play and as we finished for the day I got the warm fuzzy feeling of satisfaction in my tummy... and then some of the kids brought boquets of hand plucked flowers for us ..... and the warm fuzzy feeling turned into full bloomed happiness ...a huge high! no i was wrong earlier ...'this' was the 'good life'!"---Gayatri

"Half my holidays were over when I got a call from my friend asking me to join her for a meeting of Faith Foundation. Thanks to my fever I missed the first meeting. Next day I reached my destination -Basant Lok opposite Barista by 5.30 pm. When I reached there I got to know that we were suppose to teach the ragpickers basic English and Maths. I taught english the first day. After seeing the enthusiasm of the kids I was motivated to teach them and looked forward to the next weekend. A class was also held in which the kids were given clay and they showed their latent talent by making different figures. They made a house, river, temple and decorated them with sticks and leaves. Last sunday the class was a bit different and exciting as we told the kids a story with a moral and later they were asked to draw the charachters in the story. We even convinced a few kids to act out the story and had a good time looking at their performances. After every Faith Foundation class the kids are given some food and medicines. I did not need a B.Ed. degree to educate these harmless kids who have no other way to express themselves."---Karrtika
