The seeds of the Delhi chapter of AID were sown in 1999. However, the chapter started to evolve from a virtual group (on emails) to a real force of volunteers in January 2004.


Seven people attended our first CSH on the Republic Day, January 26, 2004. Over the past months, AID Delhi has touched many lives, not only of the underpriviliged but also of many people who want to volunteer and make a positive difference to the state of affairs in our society.

A brief time-line of our projects can be represented as below.

  • February 2004 - first visit to Yamuna, Qudsia Ghat
  • April 2004 - first set of books collected from Mata Jai Kaur Public School, Ashok Vihar
  • May 2004 - first visit to Parichay, Bhajanpura
  • June 2004 - Anirban (IIT Delhi), first volunteer coordinator of AID Delhi
  • July 2004 - Krishna (then employee of ST Microelectronics), first volunteer to Parichay; Somendra (IIT Delhi) joins him soon.
  • July 2004 - first visit to Nai Disha, NOIDA
  • September 2004 - first volunteer to Nai Disha
  • September 2004 - first stall at IIT Delhi
  • November 2004 - first visit to Faith Foundation, Vasant Vihar
  • December/ January 2005 - first volunteer to Faith Foundation
  • January 2005 - "Meal a Month" program started
  • February 2005 - first t-shirt based fund-raiser for Tsunami relief
  • May 2005 - first visit to Prayas, Jahangir puri
  • June 2005 - first volunteer to Prayas, Noida
  • June 2005 : AID Delhi gets a CMS based website, thanks to Manish Agarwal (IIT Delhi)
  • July 2005 - Nutrition program at Parichay started;Somendra plays a key role
  • December 2005 - AID India conference held at AIIMS
  • March 2006 - Volunteers in Gurgaon start going to Mobile Creches
  • May 2006 - new AID Delhi executive team takes over; President - Riputapan (then working ST Microelectronics), Volunteer Coordinator : Selva (IIT Delhi)
  • September 2006 - AID Delhi stall at IIT Delhi
  • January 2007 - Unnati project started by AID Gurgaon
  • March 2007 - AID Gurgaon became a separate chapter
  • August 2007 - Eureka kit used for an AID Delhi project the first time
  • September 2007 - AID Delhi stall at IIT Delhi
  • October 2007 - AID wide candle light vigil to support our farmers
  • January 2008 - Project Aagaz and Aarushi started by AID Noida
  • March 2008 - Project Pahal started in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon
  • January 2008 - AID Noida became a separate chapter
  • February 2008 - AID Delhi website gets a new look, thanks to Sugam Goel
  • March 2008 - Prayas picnic
  • March 2008 - new AID Delhi executive team takes over; Volunteer Coordinator : Ritesh Kumar 

     Now AID Delhi is AID NCR which comprises three chapters based in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. In addition to the project related activities, AID Delhi has been involved in many campaigns for social justice over the past years. Please check out "Campaigns" and "Events" in "Activities" section for more details. Also its no more possible to keep track of AID Delhi in terms of a list of events like above, as it has exploded far and wide; it's a movement now.
